Meet the 2021 Catholic Build Partner Family

Rhonda Davis heard about the Habitat for Humanity home ownership program several years ago and was anxious to have her own home after renting for more than 20 years, but family considerations—the needs of her children-- came first, and she put her application on hold, delaying her dream.

But as of this fall, the mother of three grown daughters and eight grandchildren, is a Habitat Partner Family and is working to build volunteer sweat equity hours through Habitat for Humanity of Sangamon County, as well as attending home ownership education classes.

Rhonda lives in a neat, but uninsulated home in a neighborhood she doesn’t consider safe for family. A home of her own, “will save me money in the long run and it will be a safe place for me and for my family,” Rhonda said. “It is so exciting. I will have room for my grandchildren when they come to visit.”

She has chosen a lot in a neighborhood, not far from her daughter’s home, so visiting will be easy. Right now, Rhonda’s grandchildren help her with her yardwork and they stick together, reflecting their strong family values.

“Rhonda has always put her family first,” her Habitat Nurturer, Cheryl, has said. “Now it’s time for her to do something for herself.”
